This Eid, Kashmir consumes mutton worth Rs 100 crore
Demand remains low this year, says President AKWMDA
Srinagar, May 02 (KNO): As the Eid-ul-Fitr is set to be celebrated tomorrow, the Muslims across Kashmir will consume mutton worth Rs 100 crores in the Valley with the people affiliated with the trade stating that nearly 650 trucks carrying over 97000 sheep reached here in the last one week.
Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Manzoor Ahmad Kanoon, President of All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers Association (AKWMDA), said that the demand for meat this year remained less as compared to the previous years.
“A total of 650 trucks of sheep reached Kashmir in the last one week. Nearly 97,000 sheep were brought from outside markets on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr,” Kanoon said, adding that the rates in the outside markets were high compared to the government rates in Jammu and Kashmir.
“As per the figure, the meat worth over Rs 97 crore has been sold on this Eid,” he said, adding that the demand in the markets remained too low compared to the previous years.
Notably, unlike previous years, the markets witnessed less hustle bustle on this Eid.
The crescent moon was not sighted anywhere in Kashmir last evening and thus the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow (Tuesday) across Jammu and Kashmir, Kashmir Grand Mufti, Nasir-ul-Islam said—(KNO)
