Srinagar- The meteorological department on Wednesday predicted widespread rainfall in plains of Kashmir on Thursday followed by a heavy snow spell between March 6 and 7 across the Valley.
Deputy Director, Meteorological Department, Mukhtar Ahmed told Kashmir Observer, on Wednesday that a widespread rainfall is expected in lower regions of Kashmir on Thursday.

However, in higher reaches, snowfall with light intensity is expected,” Ahmed said.
“In the first ten days of March, a heavy spell of snowfall is expected between 6 and 7 March,” he added.

The MeT Deputy Director further added that the early prediction for the month of March has revealed that the temperature may slightly increase after the 15th of the month.
“Till 10th March, the temperature will stay as it is. There may be a slight relief in the temperature after 10th March,” he said.
However, he quickly added that the weather forecast may change in the coming days subsequently changing the temperature predictions.

Meanwhile, barring the two tourist resorts of Pahalgam and Gulmarg, night temperature continued to stay above sub-zero level in Kashmir on Wednesday.
A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a rise by 1.4 degree Celsius with mercury settling at 4.8 degree Celsius against last nightβs 3.4 degree Celsius.

Qazigund recorded a low of 2.0 degree Celsius against minus 1.2 on the previous night, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, had a low of 1.4 degree Celsius against minus 0.5 degree Celsius on the previous night, the official said.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 0.8 degree Celsius against minus 3.5 degree Celsius last night, he said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 5.4 degree Celsius against minus 4.5 degree Celsius on the previous night, he said.
The temperature was 0.9 degree Celsius below normal for this time of the year in the famous resort in north Kashmirβs Baramulla district, he said.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 3.5 degree Celsius against 3.3 degree Celsius on the previous night, the official said. (With GNS inputs)
